2024-2025 Yearlong Internship and Education Program Management Intern

Chicago Transit Authority is the second largest transit system in the country! Our college internship program offers summer and year-long internships that provide students with valuable work experience, professional development, and mentorship. Students receive exposure to the discipline of the workplace and are guided by subject matter experts who assist them in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to perform in today’s technically demanding careers. Interns at CTA work in a range of departments across the authority. 

Our internships are project-based; therefore, the skills that we seek vary based on the needs of the projects during each term. All majors are welcome to apply, but please see education experience/requirements for specifics about what disciplines each internship project is seeking.  

Internships are part-time (15 hours a week) during the school year and full-time (40 hours a week) during the summer. 

In this role within the Training & Workforce Development department’s Workforce Partnerships unit, interns will: 

Outreach and Recruitment  

  • Support with the Request for Proposal launch, review, and selection for the College Internship Program.  
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts for high school and college programs.  
  • Schedule and facilitate virtual and in-person interviews and on-boarding events. 

Program Management  

  • Assist Coordinators, Internships & Educational Programs with management of program partners.  
  • Supervise the One Summer Chicago High School Internship Program cohort leads. 
  • Serve as resource for cohort conductors and OSC participants.  
  • Observe cohort conductor facilitation and provide feedback; support and facilitate programming in their absence.  
  • Support with development and facilitation of interactive virtual and in-person professional development workshops and program activities for interns.  
  • Assist in developing and upholding program policies and procedures for all participants. 
  • Update program handbook information to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and building and safety protocols. 
  • Assist with coordinating program events and activities; accompany interns on field trips and serve as point of contact for emergencies.  
  • Develop and disseminate resources to program stakeholders, if/as needed. 

Tracking, Data, and Evaluation  

  • Support with preparation of data, compiling evaluations, and weekly program reports. 
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for weekly payroll processing.  
  • Assist with collection of and accuracy-checking of time sheets.

Educational Experience/Requirements:  

  • Preferred Major(s): Education, Non-Profit Management, Human Development, Social Work, Public Administration, Psychology, Training and Development, Curriculum Development, Communications 
  • Preferred Level of Education: College senior and above 
  • Required enrollment status: Full-time (as defined by your academic institution) in a degree program at an accredited college or university 

Physical Requirements:  

  • The demands associated with the normal office environment 
  • Must be able to comply with office policy to work on-site twice per week  
  • Light physical activity, including walking outdoors and climbing stairs 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills  
  • Good oral and written communication skills  
  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills  
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail  
  • Good project management skills 
  • Comfort with facilitation and public speaking virtually and in-person  
  • Previous experience working with youth (required)  
  • Previous experience in managing others (preferred but not required)
