Ciena’s Information Technology Organization is seeking an intern who is currently enrolled in a curriculum focused on User Experience. This person will work collaboratively with Sr UX Designers and/or researchers, product owners and end users to turn complex problems into intuitive user experiences.

About the Role
The ideal candidate will thrive in a work environment that requires good observation and listening skills paired with problem-solving and innovative thinking. They should have an aptitude and affinity for team collaboration and open communication. This individual is both highly analytical as well as highly creative, and consistently demonstrates good design, writing and presentation skills. This individual will foster collaboration both inside and outside the team.

You will..
- Design usable, accessible, and engaging user experiences for mobile and web platforms based on end user research and best practices
- Create working prototypes or mockups for demonstration or end user testing
- Work with cross-functional product teams and the organization to achieve solutions that are right for our customers and adhere to the product vision
- Present design concepts to stakeholders

Must Haves:
- Currently be enrolled in a field of study related to Computer Human Interaction, Psychology, Visual Design or Interaction Design
- Have experience working with end users
- Good listener, with ability to capture issues, and propose solutions
- Awareness of user centered design methodologies
- Exercises good judgment with direction from supervisor
- Ability to visually represent a user interface and flow
- Ability to work directly with end users, engineers and product owners
- Must have a passion for helping others and for finding the best solution for the end user.
Assets:
- Previous experience designing user interfaces or participating in usability studies.
- Experience contributing to user centered design methodologies.
- Experience using design tools such as: Sketch, Figma, UXPin, Balsamiq, or Adobe XD
