Communications Intern, Vaccine Innovation & Global Immunization

Reports to: Manager, Research & Analysis, Influenza Vaccine Innovation
 
Location: Remote Work (only in CO, DE, FL, GA, IL, LA, MD, MA, NE, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, RI, VA, WA, DC)

Position Summary:
 
The Intern, Vaccine Innovation & Global Immunization will support a range of activities for the Influenza Vaccine Innovation team.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Review literature related to research findings and policy initiatives for vaccine development, pandemic preparedness, and global health security
  • Support regular surveillance and cataloging of news cycle and social media on science, policy and funding issues related to influenza vaccine innovation, pandemic preparedness, and global health security
  • Support background research for video interviews, including planning and promotion
  • Support stock video and photography resource gathering relating to film and video projects
  • Support in drafting social media posts for Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook
  • Assist in developing materials for stakeholder outreach and other engagements
  • Assist in landscaping opportunities and contacts for strategic communications, including virtual outreach, events, and multimedia content
  • Participate in webinars related to vaccine science and policy, the response to COVID-19, expanding; develop readouts to share with Sabin staff
  • Other administrative duties, as assigned

Requirements:
 
  • Current master’s level student, or bachelor’s level student with 1+ year of experience in communications, journalism, graphic design, or a related field
  • Interest in public health, life sciences, vaccine science or a related field
  • Interest or experience in communications, photography, or design a plus
  • Excellent communications skills (listening, writing, speaking)
  • Proficient in core Microsoft 365 applications, video conferencing (i.e., Zoom or Teams), Adobe Acrobat and conducting internet searches
  • Proficiency in Canva, Photoshop, or InDesign a plus
  • Close attention to detail, ability to manage complex tasks, highly organized, flexible, and able to prioritize in order to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Available for 18-29 hours per week during the Spring 2023 semester
