Community Development Department, Peoria, IL - Community Services Inspector

An ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working in the field to improve local communities. Strong project management skills and a commitment to public service are a must for this position. Planning, engineering and architectural students are encouraged to apply for a position that may not seem traditional but is rewarding for the impact they can make in a community. This position oversees the demolition, rehabilitation, and construction process for grant funded projects for the City of Peoria, including inspecting properties, writing work scopes and determining all structural needs for acceptance or denial of grant funded rehab assistance. Oversees contractors including procurement through sealed bids, monitoring of project progress, approving, or denying change order requests, and providing customer service to both contractors and residents during the project and to resolve disputes. Evaluates properties for demolition costs or feasibility and cost of rehabilitation. Disseminates and explains program requirements and general information to applicants, contractors and the public. Maintains detailed program files and notes and assists other grants staff with project documents and field work. Ensures all inspection work is in compliance with grant regulations and all applicable building codes. Please note that this position is a grant funded position expected to last approximately two years.
