Environmental Soil Intern - Fulton County

Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus of the MWRD is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.
Paid Interns
Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $15.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.
Required Documents
  • Letter of Recommendation from current school.
  • Cover letter stating interest.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program at an accredited university.
  • Permanent residency in Cook County or Fulton County (students may attend school outside the county limit).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.
Candidates are required to submit the Online Internship Application, submit a cover letter and letter of recommendation through MWRD’s Online Employment Center.

Description:
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is searching for a current undergraduate or graduate student in the Monitoring and Research Department. The intern will work primarily on biosolids and the Nutrient Loss Reduction Research at the Fulton County site. The intern will be involved in field samplings and measurements at the varying research studies including struvite fertilizer studies, cover crops, bioreactors, and drainage water studies. Intern will learn research operations in the field and obtain skills regarding the use and maintenance of sampling equipment.
Other duties include entering data in spreadsheets and generating a report to later present to District staff. Prospective intern will gain computer, data processing, and technical writing skills.  
Rate of Pay:
This is a paid internship at $15.00/hr.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Applicants must have a current residence in Cook County, IL or Fulton County, IL; be a citizen or national of the U.S., or legally authorized to work in the U.S.; obtain a letter of recommendation from current school; and submit a cover letter stating interest in the position.
Educational Requirements:
Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in science or agricultural science. Has completed first year of college courses.
