THE POSITION
The Human Services and Public Health department is seeking a student currently enrolled in their second year in a Human Services Associate Degree program for an internship in Economic Supports.
 
Location and hours:
This internship will begin in Fall 2022 and will work approximately 15 hours per week over the semester, not to exceed 240 hours. Regular business hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This intern will work primarily with young parents ages 13-19 at Longfellow High School 3017 E 31st St, Minneapolis, and Brooklyn Center Academy (BCA) 5910 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Brooklyn Center.

In this position, you will: 
  • Help clients complete Combined Application Forms (CAF) and conduct interviews.
  • Link clients to the Youth Eligibility Team (YET), and answer questions through instant messaging.
  • Help clients independently access the help line and talk with their YET team.
  • Help clients create a plan for obtaining paperwork and organizing documents; educate clients about paperwork.
  • Help clients create questions and learn how to advocate on the phone with team members.
  • Participate in group activities, meetings, and trainings related.
  • Conduct focus groups with teens.
  • Maintain detailed log of client interactions.
 
Need to have:
  • Current enrollment in second year of a Human Services Associate Degree program as of September 2022.
  • The ability to:
  • Travel to see clients in the community.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Work effectively with an increasingly diverse client population.
  • Experience using a computer to input, retrieve, and modify information.
