SUMMARY OF DUTIES 
The HR Communications Intern plays a key role in supporting Amtrak's Human Resources team in its overall mission to enhance the employee experience and improve employee engagement. Specifically, this position support of content creation, revision, maintenance, and management of Human Resources content on various platforms. 
 
This position will support the Human Resources team with the development, coordination and execution of proactive communications plans and activities related to internal and external HR programs, services and initiatives. 
This individual is expected to partner and collaborate effectively with employees at all levels and locations at Amtrak. The position produces a range of written content and the individual must live by Amtrak's Core Values and business behaviors, as well as write and plan effectively, exhibit keen attention to detail, think and act proactively, and drive continual improvement in Amtrak's Human Resources communications effectiveness.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
•   Creates and curates engaging content
•   Creates graphics and infographics 
•   Identifies opportunities for internal and external engagement 
•   Supports other duties as assigned
•   Attends meetings and takes notes
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
•   Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in public relations, communications, English, journalism, graphic design or a related field at an accredited educational institution
•   Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum
•   Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
•   Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
•   Ability to work and thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
•   Strong grammar and detail oriented
•   Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and social media tools
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
•   Project management experience
•   Knowledge of effective communications best practices
•   Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and collaboration proficiency
•   Excellent organizational skills
•   Demonstrated proficiency with AP style
•   Ability to work and manage multiple projects, simultaneously and provide ongoing metrics on activities
