Biological Field Technician - 677

(WEST), a dynamic medium-size consulting firm with offices across the United States, is looking for a Biological Field Technician near Essex County, New Jersey.  Since 1990, WEST has grown to be one of the premier environmental and statistical consulting firms in the United States. WEST, Inc. is a federal contractor and is required under Executive Order 14042 to mandate vaccinations for employment. Effective immediately, all prospective hires will be required to provide documentation that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, or as a condition of employment agree to have their final vaccination dose (either their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or single dose of Johnson & Johnson) on or before January 4, 2022. Per the order, employees may also request a Medical or Religious exemption from the vaccine requirement and the request must be supported by a doctor for a medical exemption or by a statement from the employee for a sincerely held belief for a religious exemption.

Job Summary:
The successful candidate for this position will be able to work independently and communicate and coordinate effectively with WEST supervisors and clients; have previous experience with eagle observation and be able to identify in-flight eagles, map movements, and take behavioral notes; and have experience working in extreme weather conditions and around heavy equipment.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Monitor for eagle activity and disturbance
  • Follow protocols to collect data, map flight paths, and describe eagle and raptor behaviors
  • Upload observations forms electronically on a daily basis
  • Monitor construction activity
  • Advise construction company on need for activity shut downs
  • Notify Agency, WEST, and New Jersey Audubon representatives of any incidents of eagle disturbance related to construction

Project Length: December 2021 – July 2022
Compensation: $17-20/hr DOE
Schedule: 40-60 hours per week
Additional Details: A work truck will be provided by WEST or a suitable candidate can use their personal vehicle and be reimbursed at the current Internal Revenue Service Rate.
