Preschool Assistant Teacher

St. Joseph School is seeking an enthusiastic and thoughtful full-time assistant teacher who is dedicated to fostering the growth of children in our growing preschool program. Our team is composed of dedicated educators who understand child development and want to work in a faith-friendly environment that promotes child-centered development.

We are seeking an individual who can work as the lead teacher in order to help to create a nurturing and safe environment. They will be responsible from 7:45am-3:15pm for teaching the children in our program, communicating with parents, and partnering with our team to enhance the learning environment at our school.

Salary is $18/hour.

Responsibilities:
  • Help to oversee and maintain the sound operations of their classroom including cleaning after mealtimes and activities
  • Effectively communicate with all staff (including your lead teacher) and parents
  • Provide a solution-orientated positive approach
  • Help instruct preschool-aged children in activities designed to promote intellectual and creative growth
  • Interact with the children to support play, exploration, and learning
  • Follow schedules and routines to ensure adequate physical activity, rest, and playtime
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and parents
  • Help implement activities that develop self-esteem and social skills
  • Maintain the health and safety of all students
  • Meet the individual needs of the children, ie. assisting with toileting
  • Present expectations that are appropriate to the child's age and developmental level
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff
  • Follow the class expectations set by your lead teacher and director

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelors degree preferably in child development or early childhood education, or the equivalent
  • Previous experience in childcare, teaching, or other related fields
  • Passionate about educating young children
  • Ability to build rapport with children
  • Positive and patient demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 3 references
  • Pass a background check/fingerprint clearance
  • Pass a physical examination with a negative TB test, COVID vaccination preferred as well
  • Be able to lift 20 lbs., sit on the floor, crouch down to be eye level with children, etc.
  • Current Mandated Reporter Training, CPR Training, VIRTUS, & other training certificates as required
