CLASSIFICATION College Lab Assistant 2, Full-time, Unlimited                   
WORK AREA   St. Cloud Technical & Community College                                                        
HOURS OF WORK M-F 8 am - 4:30 pm                     
SALARY RANGE $18.61 – $26.74 hourly; 38,857 – $54,308 annualized

POSITION PURPOSE:
This position exists to support students who are English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This person is involved in assisting ESOL students in the Center for Academic Success, assisting ESOL students in courses across the curriculum, and training student workers and staff who will also be involved with tutoring ESOL students. This position is also involved in student tutor training to assist in the understanding of ESOL students, and also works directly with the CAS staff to support the programs and needs of the center. This position directly tutors students individually or in groups, as well as facilitates independent learning experiences for students using a variety of print and media resources. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
·      Associate or higher degree in Foreign Language and one academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in Foreign Language at the high school level or above
·      Or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·      Strong organizational skills
·      Good customer relations skills
·      Experience working in a higher education setting
·      Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
·      Experience teaching English as Second Language
·      Ability to fluently speak and understand another language, preferably Spanish or Somali
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
·      Work with students in ESOL level courses to improve their reading, writing, and listening skills and abilities.
·      Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement classroom support strategies.
·      Assist with Tutoring Center Peer Tutors.
·      Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, with our without accommodations:
·      Ability to perform work that requires the following lifting/carrying strengths:
o  Occasional 10 lb. maximum
o  Primarily sitting: walking and standing occasionally 
·      Ability to perform in a work environment which may include the following physical functions:
o  Frequent: Standing, walking, sitting, simple grasp, depth perception
o  Occasional: Firm grasp, midrange vision
o  Constant: Fine manipulation, talking, hearing, near vision (up to 20)
