The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a ground water analyst for our Lewiston Regional Office. This position is responsible for all fieldwork and data quality assurance for ground water monitoring, nitrate priority area monitoring, and source water protection efforts within the region. 

Hourly Wages: $21.92 - $22.13 Hourly

Example of Duties:
  • Conduct community outreach and education, including presenting information to the public and local government entities.
  • Responsible for marketing, graphic design, and/or environmental education, including conducting outreach on a variety of environmental topics, communicating technical material to a general audience, and designing outreach materials such as fact sheets, flyers, and graphics.
  • Develop aquifer atlas and drinking water protection plans.
  • Monitor and assess ongoing ground water contamination areas.
  • Support the nonpoint source protection grant program, including developing ground water management plans.
  • Complete physical monitoring, analysis, and report writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science, political science, business or public administration, a related natural resource management field, engineering, OR, any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year Bachelor's degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty-four (24) credited hours in a subject required for the particular degree, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or work experience performing routine activities in sampling, monitoring, surveillance, field inspection, compliance and enforcement activities for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.

AND

A minimum of two (2) years experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis, and preparation of reports and written documents.

OR 

Possession of a Master's degree in any of the above fields. 
 
Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):

  • DEQ 3065 Water Quality: Have knowledge of Water Quality gained through successful completion of college level coursework in Hydrology, Geology, Soil Science, Hydrogeology, Environmental Health or a closely related field covering the principles of water quality protection and pollution control, including at least one (1) college-level course covering topics related to federal and state environmental rules OR I have at least one (1) year water pollution control work experience performing activities such as: remediation of surface and/or ground water, implementing surface and/or ground water quality monitoring projects, drinking water or wastewater management treatment and conveyance systems, watershed, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) evaluation, wetland evaluation, riparian area, aquatic habitat, water quality or environmental assessments, and/or pollutant source assessments, including municipal, industrial and storm water point source and non-point source activities, such as forestry, mining, agriculture, and grazing.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach and bend for filing purposes
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing required
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to climb ladders, staircases, work on uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over rough terrain
  • Ability to work in adverse or inclement weather
  • Ability to work in extreme hot or cold temperatures both outside and inside
  • Ability to work on elevated instrument platforms, ladders, etc.
  • Field sites may involve working near and with drilling rigs, backhoes, trucks and other large equipment in rough terrain
  • Occasional travel required
  • May work in vicinity of loud noise
  • May be required to travel and stay overnight in remote areas
  • May come into contact with hazardous waste/materials
