Mathematics and Academic Specialist

Richland Community College is seeking applicants for the Mathematics and Academic Specialist position. The Mathematics and Academic Specialist coordinates the services of the Mathematics Enrichment Center with an emphasis placed on tutoring in math and related STEM subjects to assist with increasing retention and success in these courses. Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises the Academic Success Center’s tutors including the Mathematics Enrichment Center ensuring that all areas are staffed during hours of operation. Monitors the scheduling system and assists students who are having difficulty with mathematical related software and technology. This person coordinates with faculty to optimize services and student outcomes.

Required qualifications include:
Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics or related field. A minimum of two years of administrative experience as well experience tutoring developmental mathematics.
Work collaboratively within the college community to provide leadership, supervisory, technical, written, analytical, presentation, and problem solving. Work in small group settings with students who have a wide variety of academic challenges. Operate computers and work with various educational software, calculators, and other instructional tools. Demonstrate ability to compile and organize data, records, and reports. Knowledge of issues, trends, needs, and best practices of community college programs and students, particularly those students needing developmental education.

Preferred qualifications include:
Master’s Degree in mathematics or related field and community college experience preferred.
