Student Ambassador Tour Guide - Admissions - SPRING 2021 - Student Employment (FWS Required) .

Federal Work Study is intended to help meet the needs of the University, provide University students with financial support in pursuit of their academic goals, develop a positive affiliation and assimilation into the life of the University, and provide opportunities for academic or administrative job experience. Federal Work Study positions exist throughout majority of the functional areas of the University. The job duties and responsibilities of student employees vary greatly and may or may not be related to their field of study.

Federal Work Study Eligibility:
This position requires Federal Work Study eligibility

Student employees are not permitted to exceed the total amount of their federal work study award. Supervisors will work with hired student employees to determine a schedule based on the award amount. Once federal work study funds are completely exhausted, students will need to discontinue working. Regardless of federal work study amount, students cannot exceed 10 hours of work per week during the fall and spring semester.

Key Responsibilities:
PRIMARY AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES
1.     Leads campus tours
2.     Staffs and assists during Admission recruitment events
3.     Assists with various recruitment projects e.g. mailings, student outreach, and engagement
4.     Reports directly to Student Ambassador Supervisors
5.     Performs related duties as required
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION
1.     The University must be able to verify the student’s current status as a full-time SXU student
2.     Must be in good academic and judicial standing at the University
3.     Must have, and be able to maintain, a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA
4.     Mandatory training begins in Spring and Summer
5.     Must demonstrate dedication and pride for SXU and the Student Ambassador program
6.     Must complete five hours of community service/volunteer work each semester
7.     Must act, speak, and dress professionally, especially when representing SXU and the Office of Admission
o  No swearing or vulgar language
o  No leggings or sweatpants in the office or on tours
o  No clothing, accessories, or materials with other schools’ names or logos
8.     Must have flexibility in schedule and the ability to commit at least three hours per week between the hours of 10:00am-11:00am, 11:00am-12:00pm, 2:00pm-3:00pm Monday-Friday or 10:00am-11:00am Saturday
9.     Available for occasional evening and weekend work
10. Must be available for all large admission events: Fall Campus Visit Day and Admitted Student Visit Day
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1.     Knowledge of University history and facts and the ability to memorize and internalize a tour script of about an hours’ worth of material
2.     Experience in student activities, a leadership position, or volunteer work preferred
3.     Demonstrated possession of analytical skills and the ability to make quick, problem solving decisions
4.     Ability to engage and build a rapport with prospective students and their families
5.     Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
6.     Ability to comfortably and confidently speak in front of large groups; strong public speaking skills required
7.     Successful completion of First-Year training program required
8.     Must be Federal Work Study (FWS) eligible
